Owner / Director: Terrie Legein is a certified teacher of Levesque School of Dance in Providence, a certified member of Dance Masters of America, Dance Teachers Club of Boston, Dance Alliance of RI and the International Tap Association. She has served as the Tap Department’s Program Coordinator and Tap Teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts in Orleans, MA on Cape Cod.
She currently serves as President of Dance Masters of America, N.E. Chapter #5, the chapter’s Delegate Director and it’s Membership Chairperson. Mrs. Legein taught Masters Tap classes at DMA Teachers' Training School in Buffalo and is a certified examiner through DMA. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Dance Teachers Club of Boston as Program Chairperson, as an Advisor for their Teachers Training School Program and committee member for National Tap Day. She will currently serve on the Membership Testing Committee for Dance Teachers Club of Boston. She also travels as a competition judge / adjudicator and Master Tap Teacher throughout the NE area.
In July of 2000, Mrs. Legein was awarded the prestigious Bachna Scholarship for Leadership and Dedication to Dance Education from Dance Masters of America in Buffalo, NY. As an advocate for dance education, Mrs. Legein continues to study annually at DMA’s Teacher Training School in Buffalo where she is currently working on her Certified Masters in Dance Direction Qualification.
She has had the honor of performing with Master Teacher Brian Jones at Trinity Repertory Theater in Providence and at the Orpheum in Foxboro, MA. She has had the privilege of serving as co-chair for the United We Dance events in Providence, which raised more than $15,000.00 for the families of the victims of the 9/11 disasters. Additional professional affiliations include resident choreographer for area schools and theater groups.
Today she remains active in her community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Pawtuxet Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Pawtuxet Valley Rotary as Sergeant at Arms. Mrs. Legein has recently danced into a new venture: Dance Essentials – Apparel to Move You – owner of a dancewear specialty shop located next door to the Coventry studio.
Assistant Director: Allison (Legein) Simoes is a certified
member of Dance Teachers Club of Boston. She has managed the EWG High School
Jazz Dance Team and served on staff at the Hazel Boone Dance Studio in MA.
She frequently appears as a guest teacher in the NE area and has served on
the Membership Testing Committee and the Teacher Training Committee for Dance
Teachers Club of Boston.
Miss Allison was our studio’s first Tap Scholarship award winner from DTCB in 1991. Her professional affiliations include performances with Warwick Players and the CHS Dance Team. Miss Allison teaches our Primary to advanced levels in all disciplines. Allison is currently working towards her elementary education teaching degree at RI College.
Vocal Director: Lisa Buckley
Lisa earned her Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching from RIC in 1987. She possesses certifications in both elementary and early childhood education. For the past 20 years she has taught in public, private and home school settings.
Integrating her education and music backgrounds, Lisa directed the music and vocal performance of Legein Dance Academy’s Production of “The Shoemaker and the Elves” in 2006 and “Locked In” and “Ebenezer” in 2007.
Lisa now teaches voice classes and vocal pedagogy at the newly established vocal department at our studio.

A look at our Alumni
Kati-Ann Ashworth is a graduate of Long Island University with a BFA in Dance Studies. Kati has performed throughout Long Island and New York City, and is honored to have worked with members of Pilobolus, The Limon Institute, and Mark Morris Dance Group. Her choreography has been showcased in the gala performance at the American College Dance Festival. She is currently working at Long Island University and dancing with the talented and creative group, Immersion Dance Company, who perform both nationally and internationally. Kati is a graduate of DTCB.
Richard Ashworth, is a graduate of the University of Buffalo. Richie is apprenticing with the John Lehrer Dance Company in Buffalo as well as teaching for dance studios in the Buffalo area. He contributed to the DMA Jazz manual by completing research on the history of Hip Hop. Richie is a graduate of DTCB and he also was the DTCB recipient of the Al Gold Scholarship in Jazz.
Keri Connell now lives in Maryland and is studying Botany. She is a graduate of DTCB and won the Lilla Frances Viles Scholarship.
Meghan Duckworth is a graduate of Sacred Heart University with a BS in Exercise Science. While an undergraduate at SHU Meghan received the Sacred Heart Passion for Learning Award and was inducted into the Delta Sigma Chi National Honor Society. She was also a member of the SHU Dance Team. Meghan is now a graduate student at SHU working towards a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy. She is a graduate of DTCB and is teaching Parent/Child classes and beginner dance classes in Orange, CT.
Kristen Guertin attends URI and is a graduate of DTCB.
Erin Thorntonattends URI, is a graduate of DTCB and was the recipient of the DTCB Robin Magee Jazz Scholarship.
Julia Glater attends Emerson College.
Jennifer Siniscalchi attends URI and continues to take classes and perform with our studio.
Jessica Daley attends Colorado University majoring in Environmental Studies. She is a DTCB graduate and won the DTCB award for the highest aptitude for teaching. Jessica also won the Bettijane Grey-Robinson Scholarship in Ballet.
Sami Sherer attends URI and is a graduate of DTCB.
Lauren Durante attends RIC, is a DTCB graduate and was the recipient of the JoAnn East Award.
Sarah Griffin attends RIC.
Melissa Hurley attends Southern New Hampshire University.
Allie Collins attends RIC majoring in dance. She is a DTCB graduate and received the DTCB award for the highest aptitude for teaching.
Sami Estrella attends CCRI majoring in Radiology.
Katie Fielder attends Lebanon Valley College majoring in Physical Therapy.
Bethany Murphy attends URI and is a graduate of DTCB. She was the recipient of the DTCB award for the highest aptitude for teaching. Bethany was also the recipient of the Lilla Frances Viles Award, the Audree Wilson Scholarship and the Jean Paige Ballet Scholarship.
Ariana Verducci attends RIC majoring in dance and is a DTCB graduate.
Melissa Giroux is a DTCB graduate and was the recipient of the Mary Jane Brown Tap Award. She is now working in the banking industry.
Lisa Powers is a DTCB graduate and was the recipient of the Mary Jane Brown Tap Award. She is now teaching in the Boston area.
